AHI To Host Capitol Hill Conference On
U.S. RELATIONS WITH TURKEY: THE NEW REALITIES IN THE POST-IRAQ WAR ERA

On Tuesday, July 8, 2003, the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) will sponsor a conference and luncheon on Capitol Hill on U.S. Relations with Turkey: The New Realities in the Post Iraq War Era. The morning session of the conference will be held in the Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2253 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The luncheon and afternoon session will follow in Rayburn B-340 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The conference will review Turkey’s record as an unreliable ally over the years with emphasis on her recent lack of support in the Iraq War and the fact that the U.S. defeated the Saddam Hussein dictatorship without Turkey’s help. The conference will also examine the role and contributions that Greece and Cyprus provided to the United States in the defeat of Saddam Hussein. Finally, the conference will offer suggestions for what U.S. policy should be towards these countries in view of these current realities.

Conference speakers will include Ted Galen Carpenter, Vice President, Defense and Foreign Policy Studies at the Cato Institute, Aram Hamparian, Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee, Kani Xulam, Director, The American Kurdish Information Network, Nick Karambelas, Esq., Partner, Sfikas & Karambelas, LLP, Gene Rossides, AHI general counsel, and invited Members of Congress.

In addition, world renowned writer and columnist, Christopher Hitchens has been invited to be the Keynote speaker.
