Newly-confirmed American Ambassador to Greece Meets with AHI

WASHINGTON, DC—The newly-confirmed American ambassador to Greece, David D. Pearce, met with representatives of the American Hellenic Institute on September 6, 2013, as part of his final preparations before he departs for his new post.  The meeting took place at the U.S. Department of State.

“We greatly appreciated the opportunity to meet with Ambassador Pearce,” AHI President Nick Larigakis said. “We welcomed the substantive and candid discussion we had on issues of importance to the community. We look forward to growing our relationship in the effort to strengthen U.S. relations with Greece and in the pursuit of our common goals and objectives.”

The discussion focused on a wide array of topics, including:  initiatives to strengthen U.S. relations with Greece, the reunification of Cyprus, the FYROM name dispute issue, the Greek economy, Greece’s important role as the United States’ key strategic, political and economic ally in southeast Europe and the eastern Mediterranean; and the plight of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

Davida Baxter, Greek desk officer, U.S. Department of State, accompanied the ambassador to the meeting.  AHI Legislative Assistant Georgea Polizos attended with President Larigakis.

The American Hellenic Institute is a non-profit Greek American public policy center and think tank that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
