WASHINGTON--The American Hellenic Institute (AHI), a leading Greek American policy center and think-tank, presented U.S. Rep. Zack Space (D-Ohio) with the AHI Hellenic Heritage National Public Service Award following remarks the first-term congressman delivered at AHI’s public policy forum “Cyprus 34 Years Later: What Is Needed for a Solution?” on July 16, 2008. AHI Founder Gene Rossides, AHI Chairman Jim Marketos, and Executive Director Nick Larigakis presented Space with the award.
“Congressman Space has demonstrated a great interest in support of issues dealing with U.S. relations with Greece and Cyprus, and has been a true champion of the rule of law in international relations since his first day in office,” said Rossides. “Zack Space is a Strong believer in family values and issues of concern to the working men and women of his district, Ohio’s eighteenth. His constituents have realized that the congressman is a dedicated and hard-working advocate on their behalf.”
In his acceptance, Space commended AHI for keeping Hellenic issues at the forefront of Congress’ agenda. The congressman accepted the award on behalf of his “pappou,” (grandfather) a Greek immigrant who realized the American Dream through a hard work ethic, and who continues to serve as an inspiration to Space.
Space was to receive the Public Service Award at AHI’s annual awards dinner in March but was unable to attend due to a change in his schedule.

THE AMERICAN HELLENIC Institute (AHI), was founded on August 1, 1974, following Turkey’s invasion of Cyprus with the illegal use of American-supplied arms in violation of U.S. laws and agreements. The AHI initiated the rule of law issue in the Congress in the interests of the U.S., thus changing the face of American politics. <<<Continue>>>
